Regulations are a central issue in the ongoing debate around Marcellus gas drilling. PA's Department of Environmental Protection grants the permits for drilling but the Delaware and Susquehanna River Basin Commissions regulate the all-important withdrawal of water by gas drillers for fracking.

A public database out of the PA DEP. Useful for information on permit applications, inspection results and enforcement actions. Because many records are non-public for up to 5 years, much of the detail may be inaccessible. Combined with ENotice and EMapPA, these are three well conceived but poorly executed websites. Extremely challenging to navigate. - PA's New Oil and Gas Law
Passed in February 2012, Act 13 - also known as the Unconventional Gas Well Impact Fee Act - will implement an "impact fee" rather than a severance tax on natural gas develop and revise many of the Oil & Gas Act's environmental regulations. - The Safe Drinking Water Act
The Safe Drinking Water Act excludes fracking. See it in the ENERGY POLICY ACT OF 2005. Go to Page 102, Section 322. HYDRAULIC FRACTURING. - The Clean Water Act
The Clean Water Act changes the definition of pollutant. The word "Pollutant" no longer includes, "water, gas, or other material which is injected into a well to facilitate production of oil or gas" See it in the Clean Water Act. An example of how to use the site: (1) Click the above link, (2) Check off Bradford County, (3)Type ”Chesa*” in the COMPANY/LAST NAME search box. “*” is a wild card so you don’t have to type the whole name perfectly, (4) If a record matches your name search, click on “ INSTRUMENT #” to identify the “Grantor” (the party who entered into the lease with the Chesapeake”).
